Edward Rothstein’s review was too harsh, on both Irene Nemirovksy and the exhibit. While the subject of how much Ms. Nemirovsky embraced or pushed away Judaism and Jewish culture is certainly a fit subject for inquiry, Mr. Rothstein goes beyond raising questions to making conclusions that the facts don’t support, at least not yet. He also lightly skips over the fact, which he acknowledges only in passing, that Ms. Nemirovksy had indeed produced a masterpiece, one that helped bring to light the conditions and circumstances that produced the Nazi regime and its occupation of France, including the horrible consequences to the Jewish population there.
