After reading Suite Francaise, I wanted to discover as much as I could about the author and her family. THankfully, I was able to attend the museum exhibit on its final day. The loss of Irene to the Nazis demonstrates in human terms the tremendous loss to the world of so many novels never written, music never composed, medical cures never made, art never created. Irene is displayed as a strong woman who did what she could to save her family, and worked feverishly to finish her writing. Her daughter’s efforts, even at a young age to preserve her mother’s notebook and her willingness to speak about her experience and her mother led to the “victory” over the Nazi’s attempt to silence her mother. Thank you for this wonderful exhibit.

I was glad to have the opportunity to view the exhibit after reading “Suite Francais” with my book club. Remarkable woman! I plan to buy multiple copies to give to friends as Christmas presents. Irene was a wonderful story teller. What more might we have enjoyed had she not be brutalized so young!

This is truly remarkable! being able to see, and to try and understand all of this madness that has happened. seeing artifacts of loved ones that may be gone, but there spirit lives on. there spirit lives on in all of us. they are the true essense of hope, or perserverence, of true heroship. Of true hardship. theese remarkable people, this remarkable woman, their voces, her voice will live on forever-through thees artifacts, through theese memories-one will always truly remeber all that has happened-all the horrors, all the faith and strength, It lives on!

I am in the process of writing my thesis for my master’s degree in history at Clemson University. My subject is Irene Nemirovsky – Anti-semite? My argument is that she was not – absolutely not. I am fascinated with her and am working on a 1-person play in which I play her with the presentation to the audience in which they get to decide. Thank you for this wonderful exposition. I wish I had known and could have attended.

I have only yesterday finished Suite Francaise for a book club. When I finished and put the book down, I just felt stunned. I am still at a loss for words.

I wanted to follow up my visit in NYC with a comment on this momentous day. This 5 day period of Monday through Friday is the span of Irene Nemirovsky’s arrest and her transport to Auschwitz. It is a “yahrzeit” opportunity to read passages from both Suite Française and Chaleur du sang (Fire in the Blood).
